Thunderball with Sean Connery and Claudine Auger. This is one of the earlier James Bond sequels and therefore features the super handsome Sean Connery in the lead. It does lack some of the refined touched that we came to enjoy in the newer sequels such as the advanced technology and Bond theme song, but it is still rather good and should not be missed.

In the opening scenes, we sit in on a board meeting of the Spectre leaders all numbered

up to the infamous number 1. We never do see his identity in the movie and only catch a glimpse of his legs and his pet cat.

The featured villain is named Largo and is the number 2 Spectre agent. He comes with the classic eye patch and I can see that this movie was the model for the Austin Powers adaptation.

He steals two atomic bombs from a British Jet and demands two million pounds sterling in diamonds or he will use the bombs ...

      • on an American city and a British one. This sets the scene for 007 along with his CIA counterpart Felix to prevent this atrocity from happening.

The movie is filled with hot babes and has some decent gadgets designed by M. I also enjoyed the scenic setting of the Bahamas and especially the underwater and carnival aspects.

Of course, Bond wins at the Casino as he often does and we, the audience, are made to feel part of this exciting life through Bond’s eyes. I

did notice that Bond did not drink one Martini shaken not stirred, but rather accepted a Rum Collins.

Was this a flaw in the film? The Shark pool was a nice trick and allowed Largo to flex his evil muscles. The big underwater fight scene was a bust at the end as it was too long and dull.

Though this sequel is not one of the best Bond movies, I still recommend that you see it if only for Sean Connery and his power over beautiful women.
