“Bloodline” is the eighth episode of the eighth season of Smallville on the CW. This episode was a little light on action but served to further the eventual arrival of Doomsday, one of Superman’s greatest villians.

Clark is sent a mysterious crystal which sends him to the Phantom Zone. At the last possible minute, Lois reaches out and grabs Clark, causing her to accompany him on the trip.

Most of the episode follows Clark and

Lois in the Zone, where they meet up with Kara (SuperGirl), who has been trapped in the Zone since being sent there by Brainiac last season. She could have escaped through a portal but refused to do so, fearing that she would be followed back to Earth by the various villians inhabiting the Zone.

General Zod’s wife follows Lois out of the Zone and meets Davis, who is apparently her son. She kills him by impaling ...

      • him though the stomach with an iron bar, but surprisingly Davis almost immediately comes back to life and pulls himself off the floor in a pool of blood. Zod’s wife is defeated when Clark comes home, but she has planted the seed in Davis’ head that he is not normal, and is in fact the son of incredibly powerful beings. When Davis attempts to impale himself at the end of the episode, he finds that
his body has already adapted to become as hard as steel.

It was nice seeing Kara again, but she did not get much screen time, and she made it clear at the end that her destiny is not on Earth, but instead roaming the cosmos looking for survivors from Krypton.

Again, this episode was light on action but pretty high in atmosphere. Because it looks like Doomsday is finally on his way, I give this episode a 7 out of 10.
