2003 Lion Country Safari Road, Loxahatchee, FL
  • You used to be able to see Lions roaming free as well but in 2005, we were disappointed to see that they put a fence around the lion's area because visitors to the park would not abide by the simple rules to stay in their cars and not open their windows

One of the coolest attractions in all of Florida is Lion Country Safari in Loxahatchee, FL in Palm Beach County. It’s about as close to going on Safari in Africa as most of us are ever going to get.

You see when you go to Lion Country Safari, there is a five mile portion of the park where you can stay in your car and see animals roaming free all around you. You used to be able to see Lions roaming free as well but in 2005, we were disappointed to see that they put a fence around the lion’s area

because visitors to the park would not abide by the simple rules to stay in their cars and not open their windows. It’s a shame that it is usually a couple bad apples that ruin everything for everybody else. However, there are lots of animals still roaming loose in the park that may cross in front of your car, or sit in the road in front of you, yawning, preening their fur, or simply standing their looking around! We’ve been stuck with Zebras standing in front of us refusing to move for quite some time on several occasions!

You are apt to see Wildebeests, Llamas, Tapirs, Gnu, Elephants, Rhinos, Giraffes, Spider Monkeys, Ostrich, Elands, Chimpanzee, Wild Sheep, Impala, Vultures, Deer, Tortoise, Gibbon and many more! There are at least a thousand just in the Drive-thru part of the park.

They have the Drive thru part of the park set up in sections that are replicas of the animal’s natural habitat. The sections are: Las Pampas, Rhuaha National Park, Kalahari Bush Veldt, Gir Forest, Gorongosa, Serengheti Plains, and the Hwange National Park. They are all very specific regions and topography in South America, India and Africa.

      Besides the Drive-thru, there is also a Walk-thru ...

section of the park that has a Squirrel Monkey exhibit, a Petting zoo, a Reptile exhibit, an Aviary, as well as a Carousel, a Ferris Wheel, A Safari Boat ride where you see Spider Monkeys and Siamangs on islands. There is also a train, a miniature golf course and a flying elephant ride.

I can remember going here about 10 years ago and they didn’t have all the rides and the Safari Boat. It’s wonderful that they are adding new things all the time now. It used to seem like a long ride for just the little bit that was there, but now

we have no trouble justifying our drives down there because it’s a full day easy to see and do it all.

It costs $22.99 to get in for adults and $17.49 for ages 3-9. They have a cafeteria with Pizza, Chicken Nuggets and Burgers type fare and they also have a Carvel Store for an ice cream treat in the afternoon.

Lion Country Safari is fun for all ages and a blast if you love photography. You can take your time going through the Drive Thru part of the park which is good in my case because I take forever finding the perfect picture!
