I have been playing video games for as long as I can remember, and I have never enjoyed a racing game. That is, until Need for Speed Most Wanted fell into my hands. A friend of mine brought it over one night so I could see “how cool” the new Need for Speed game was. I was pretty skeptical because as I mentioned I hate racing games.

However, Need for Speed Most Wanted converted me in a heartbeat. The story behind this game is that you, the driver, are returning to a town you once abandoned, now over-run by street racing, and just as over-run by a police force led by Sgt. Cross,

a man determined to put all of the street racers behind bars.

You start at the bottom of the street racing food chain, and must climb your way to the top. Each level or progression includes a series of races you must complete. Races are of the following different types; drag, sprint, circuit, speed trap, and checkpoint.

All of the races are raced through the streets of the town you have returned to, across highways, through downtown districts, and rural areas, you must prove yourself to be first. However, Sgt. Cross and his police force are constantly monitoring these streets and if they spot you a chase will ensue.

      You must not be

caught, and must do anything to avoid it, including smashing through roadblocks, dodging spike strips, cutting through construction zones, anything to evade the police. As you run from the police and you cause damage to the town, or break traffic laws, the bounty for your arrest rises. Each time it rises to a new level, the police chasing you become stronger.

SUV’s, and helicopters join the pursuit, until eventually you are up against Corvette police cars that seek to immobilize you at any cost. This bounty meter is another stipulation of each level. Until you can proceed to the next you must have reached a certain level of bounty for your arrest.

before you can challenge the boss at the end of each level to a race for the pink slip to their car you must complete certain milestones. Ranging from dodging 3 spike strips before evading police, to being clocked at 125MPH in a speed trap. Once you have completed those three requirements of the level you may challenge the boss, and if you win that race you progress to the next level.

There are 15 levels in all, and completing all 15 levels awards you with all 1000 achievement points for your gamer tag. As the game progresses better cars, and upgrades become available for you to purchase in the garage. These parts

can be used to make your car faster and more agile, or to make your car a stunning piece of art.

This is the part of the game that interested me. The ability to put body kits, spoilers, rims, and decals on your car to make it look absolutely amazing. I had a blast racing the undergrounds of Need for Speed Most Wanted, and if you a gamer that enjoys racing games I have no doubt that you will too.

Who knows, even if you don’t like racing games, maybe like me you too will come to love this game that changed a series of rotten Need for Speed games into something spectacular.

Is just the police and SWAT that do the chase, haven’t seen helicopters.

And also being on a high speed attracts the police force and Sgt. Cross. So to avoid being trapped you have to reduce your speed on checkpoints.

And also you can take some police cars down by hitting them.
