Brian & Bob” is a children’s book written and illustrated by Georgie Ripper and published in 2003. The book is pretty short at about 24 pages and can be read in just a couple minutes, which makes is a good last book for the night when your little one pleads for “just one more.”

The story is pretty straightforward. Brian

and Bob are two guinea pigs living in a pet store. One of them is bought by a little boy, leaving the other one sad and alone. Then the other one is bought by an older gentleman, old enough to be a grandfather. So what will happen to the guinea pig best friends? I think you can see where ...

      • this is heading.

So the story is not groundbreaking, and the art is passable. The guinea pigs are cute enough and are drawn so that a child will easily be able to tell them apart, although she might have a hard time keeping their names straight. The coloring is bright and people and animals are drawn somewhat primitively but almost realistically.

They are not exaggerated with cartoonish proportions.

I was underwhelmed by this book just because I had the feeling of having read so many similar stories before where best friends are separated and eventually reunited. Unless your child is a huge guinea pig fan, there is no real reason to buy this book. I give it a 3 out of 10.
