Ubuntu is a Linux distribution like Debian, Knoppix, SuSe or Red Hat. Ubuntu is an operating system like windows or MacOS and on top of that it is free! That’s because the Ubuntu community is based on the ideas of the Ubuntu manifesto: Software must be free, in the own local language. Ubuntu can be installed with a huge range of languages: from African to even Zulu. The users even have the right to adjust the software to their needs. Isn’t that cool? It’s awesome, that’s the spirit of open source programs!

A lot of people might say: ‘Oh, it’s free, so it must be crap’. No it isn’t. In my opinion it’s 10 times better than those Microsoft operating systems, especially Vista. So why should you choose for Ubuntu? There are a lot of advantages:

      * It is free and legal.

/> * It comes with a whole package of software like open office (open source version of MS office), internet applications like Mozilla Firefox, multimedia and graphic applications. All this software is automatically installed by default. The software is free and compatible with most existing standard software packages such as MS Office.

      * Additional software, which is often free, can be installed easily with convenient tool.

      * Alternative (dual boot) for when your system is crashed.

      * It is available in your own language.

      * There is almost no risk of virus infections, because you decide, as administrator, what happens all the time.

      * They have updates on a regular basis.

      * From my experience, dual booting with Ubuntu is very easy. If you do need help, there are a lot of step by step tutorials on the internet.

      Of course there ...

      • are some disadvantages:

        * If it is the first time you will work with Ubuntu, you will have some trouble if you want to install software, which isn’t installable with the convenient tool. You will have to work in a terminal, and need to work with codes. But you get used to it very quickly, and there is the huge Ubuntu community which will help you out right away.

        How to obtain Ubuntu?

        * You can obtain a free CD from one of the many volunteers.

        * You can request/order a free CD by Ship IT Ubuntu.

        * You can download it right away from the Ubuntu website

Is Ubuntu the right choice for you?

For first time Linux users, I definitely suggest to try Ubuntu, cause I think it is by far the easiest Linux distribution on the market. A lot of handy applications

are pre-installed. When you do have a program that you have to install manually, than there is the big Ubuntu community to help you out. It is the largest community of a Linux distribution, so almost everything has already been posted there. If not, they will certainly help you out in no time!

On the other hand, if you are already familiar with Linux is suggest you to try Red hat or Suse. I have already tried them out and they are pretty good.

        Overall opinion:

To all the people who are tired of using a slow and crappy Microsoft operating system, Wipe your hard drive and put Linux on it. Or choose for a dual boot with Ubuntu if you need applications that only run on MS. You will love Ubuntu, no doubt about that!

If you like Ubuntu, don’t forget to give a little donation, so Ubuntu can keep getting better and better.
