In response to another reviewer about the British Columbia Ferries, I wanted to add the facts as I see them. The overall opinion of that reviewer is that the Ferry trip is “pleasant”. While I have found there to be many pleasurable aspects of the Ferry Service from Vancouver Island to mainland BC, overall the service has many opportunities for improvement.

Here are a few: - I have traveled this service over a hundred times and have yet to see an all you can eat buffet. The cafeteria style food service always seemed to me to know that they

      had a captive audience.

The food is from adequate to gross, and the staff are aloof typical British Columbia union workers doing as little as possible. - The tot play area is a space of about 10 foot square with one small sort of unclean looking plastic slide and three platic little things to sit on with wheels to turn - sort of shapeless lumpy pretend cars.

It is too small and not usually clean. - The reviewer remarks that you won’t want to stay in your car.

Actually you are not allowed to stay in your car in the ...

      • vehicle deck because if a collision were to take place YOU WOULD DIE!

        - Then there is the organization (actually lack of organization) of the cars arriving to board the ferry. When the traffic is high, people hand our numbers which are supposed to keep your place in the line which are then totally ignored as you near the ticket seller kiosk’s.

        - I was in the terminal once when a young couple rushed in to purchase tickets as walk on passengers for the next ferry. The ticket seller woman abruptly said they could not have tickets because the deadline

        for that sailing had passed.

They pointed out that the ferry was late and just coming in so the deadline for ticket purchasing did not make sense. The ticket seller was rude and would not let them buy tickets even though it would take 40 minutes for the ferry to dock and discharge passengers.

In summary, I find alot of the staff not friendly, the ship & facilities not clean and the food awful. The natural scenery and sailing experience itself is worth all of this for a scenic voyage.

I think tourists should experience the trip just for the local flavour. It is a unique experience!
