The Nikon D40 is a great camera for an amateur photographer or someone who is brand new to the world of Digital SLRs. The kit lens it comes with is only good for outdoor shots in bright lighting.

I would have preferred a lens that is good for indoor shots, as I find myself using this camera more indoors than out.

      It is a small

for a DSLR so I find it incredibly portable, which is a plus.

The battery is rechargeable and lasts for hours when it is fully charged.

It does not have a video function, which I found to be kind of annoying on a five hundred dollar camera.

I also did not realize that the camera does not come with a memory card, so when you ...

      • first buy your camera, you cannot take photos until you buy a separate card.

Depending on how much space you want, this can get costly.

The pros are it’s portability, ease of use, recharegeable battery, photo clarity, and relatively small price tag for an SLR.

The cons are the crappy kit lens, lack of a video function, and the fact that the memory card is

        not included.

It does take huge photos, so if your computer is not equipped to handle large graphics, you might find that the photos from this computer will log up your computer pretty quickly.

I recommend the Nikon D40 to anyone looking to upgrade for the first time to a DSLR.

It is not a good option for someone who is truly serious about pursuing photography.

Plug the charger in to see if it happens on both battery and charger power. Also remove the SD card if you have one. It’s possible that it can cause it to freeze. If it continues it’s likely to be a hardware problem. If this is the case, you will need to contact Nikon to have it serviced.
