I have waited a long time for someone to make a DragonLance movie. I would have preferred a live-action film but this movie is animated. Still, it follows the novel pretty well. This movie is not perfect but it is very viewable, especially if you’re not too fussy.

All the characters are there and they are easily recognizable. Many of the characters look very similar to the original paintings the fantasy artists made years ago, which is nice. Over the years I got used to them looking

a certain way from covers of novels so its good that didn’t change. Goldmoon’s hair should have been more yellow and Raist’s staff didn’t exactly look right in regards to the dragon claw, but those are minor issues. I think they did skimp on Caramon’s character though in regards to drawing him. The black dragon in the ruined city looked more bluish than black. The Forestmaster also looked a bit strange. If you’re a diehard fan, these things may bother you.

The animation in this film uses ...

      • both traditional drawing and computer animation. All the dragons are computer animated and they have a three-dimensional look. Some people complained that they don’t like the mix of these two drawing styles, and it does look a little odd, but it really doesn’t spoil the movie. I thought the dragons looked quite good actually. The fire in various scenes did look very strange though I’m not sure why. I think perhaps it was computer animated as well and it just ended up looking weird. That bothered me
        more than anything else.

The story flowed smoothly from one scene to another. In case you don’t know, this movie is based on the very popular, international best selling novel by Margaret Weiss and Tracy Hickman: Dragons of Autumn Twilight. It’s the first book in the DragonLance Chronicles. It tells the epic fantasy story of several heroes set out to save their world of Krynn from the evil Goddess, Takhisis. The characters include warriors, mages, elves, dwarves, humans, a kinder and lots of magic. And yes, there are many dragons.
