DOLLAR RENT A CAR charged me $1093 for a two hour rental. Don’t believe it? — keep reading.

As I write this I have been fighting the charge for 7 months.

My friends and I rented 2 cars from DOLLAR in Panama, February 2008 (a van and additional car — the Dollar

van was big enough for our party but not our luggage so we rented the additional car for the day).

We had an arrangment with the Dollar rental agent that for $25 a Dollar employee would come and pick up the car.

All we had to do was leave the keys at the front desk upon arrival and someone would be up later that day.

We drove to our hotel and left the keys at the front desk.

(we stayed in the hotel for 3 days; we rented another car from Dollar to again help transport our luggage to the second hotel; ...

only staying in Panama for 1 week) Now imagine this: 2 weeks after returning to the U.

I see a charge from Dollar for $1093.

No one ever came to pick up the car (per our agreement) and it took them 3 weeks to figure out what happened to their car.

/> You may be thinking, “wow, that’s too bad, but why didn’t you just call.

” Imagine if the person responsible for picking up the car was given the $25 (fee for getting car picked up) directly.

Do you think that car would have sat there? No they would have remembered their contract with us and picked up the car.

Floridian says :

We reserved a car from Dollar Thrifty and Dollar are jointly owned operated at the Knoxville airport and upon arrival the employee informed us that we had to make a 150.00 deposit because our credit card was also a debit card I know, have you ever heard of such a stupid thing . We wanted to bail ourt of the reservation, but every other company was booked so back to the the Dollar counter we go. The employee was so rude and arrogant. He proceeded to have us sign a statement saying the car only had two little scratchs on it and we were agreeing to that condition - well, we hadn`t even seen the car so how would we know. When we went to the parking garage, the car was damaged in numerous places so I called immediately to the front desk and another young boy answered the phone, I told him about the car and he said okay, you`re good to go . The employee told us before we left that if we had a flat tire or anything while driving the vehicle, that it was our responsibility to fix it. He asked if we wanted power windows and if so, it was an additional 11.00 per day, GPS, 11.00 extra per day, etc, etc, etc,. We rented the car for a week for local driving and returned it back to the airport. The original quote was for 238.00 unlimited miles for the week. Our grand total was 398.00. The car was small, scratched, dented, and dirty. The whole experience was nerve wrecking and one for which I will never repeat by using this company again. This company has rightfully named itself Dollar and Thrifty because they fully intend to get every dollar they can out of you and will be very thrifty with what they offer you. Consumers show this company what the name really means and take your dollar somewhere else - now that`s thrifty
