      Big waves, big wind

This is the best place on the island to pick up big waves. When it is blowing there are some relative monsters here 3-4 metres with massive troughs and plenty of excitement, this spot is not for the feint hearted.

      Curium: where is it?

The beach is located just to the east of Episkopi, around 5km east of Paramali (see review). It is clearly signposted off the main road.

When you drive down to the beach the road bends right, towards a

restaurant, don’t go right, go left. This takes you onto some rocks (large pebbles) and that is where the kites go from. Unless it is the depths of winter and the wind hasn’t gone easterly, you can only kite from the right hand side sandy beaches out of season.

The launching and landing area is big field and there is quite a lot of rubbish there.

      The Wind

The wind here is the same as Paramali, it doesn’t start until around 2pm and it usually stays in all day. When the ...

      • wind is strong here you get big waves.

There are not usually any instructors on the beach at Epi as the waves are big.

        The water

The beach here is big and there are no obstructions in the water. You cannot kite near the tourist beach and there are buoy markers to indicate this, but there is so much space it doesn’t matter. The waves break quite close to the beach and there is a steep pebble bank (large pebbles/stones) to get in and out of the water which can be a

pain, and if you’re unlucky like me, very painful if you get dragged! The water goes deep after 3m, so it’s all safe.

On windy days in July and August it can get busy, like anywhere else. You do get some (two or three) advanced windsurfers here too. I nearly got killed by one a while ago hen he gybed downwind onto me, so you need to keep an eye on them.

Excellent spot for wave riding, big big big air, but only go there is you know what you’re doing.
