If you are looking for a great budget bunagalow resort seconds from the ocean, this is it. Mam Kaibae Beach Resort is located directly on Middle Hat Kaibae Beach in Koh Chang. This beach is the third beach along the island, and is all white sand. The water is clean and warm, and you can sun yourself directly on the beach. If you want to sit in the shade at noon there are lots of coconut trees to shade you. The sunsets are stunning. You can rent kyaks if you want to do some paddling.
The beach resort itself is a collection of bungalows, many of them fronting directly on the beach. Even those that are behind offer a view of the ocean, and are only moments away. The bungalows are basic. You have a large double bed, and a small TV. The bathrooms are clean, with a proper flush toilet. Some come with hot water, others with cold only. You can choose. There was also a sink. Each hut has a little porch with a table and chair. It's a great place to relax anytime of the day or nite. Both fan cooled and AC rooms are available. I opted for a fan cooled and it was great. There were lots of windows, and I was able to enjoy the fabulous ocean breeze. Cleaning was on a request basis. At 500baht a night (approx. 12.00US) you can't beat it.
There is also a small restaurant fronting the ocean. Food and drinks are served from 7am to 9pm daily. The food is tasty and cheap, and includes traditional Thai dishes. A Western style breakfast is also available. A self service coffee area is also provided. The resort offers a small convenience store, where you can buy snacks and drinks. You can book day trips to go snorkeling, elephant riding, or an afternoon of Thai cooking. The staff are totally friendly and helpful. The resort is relatively quiet. It does get a little noisy on the weekends, but is not out of control.
It is easy to get to the other beaches from here. You simply walk to the road, about 2 minutes, and you can flag down share cabs in either direction. It is about 20 minutes to White Sands Beach, which is the most popular beach on the Island, and the fare is about 2.00US.
There are a number of other resorts close by, so you opt for number of places to eat. The resort next door has interet available. If you walk up to the road (2 minutes away) you will find shops, restaurants, a bakery, a wine store.
If you are looking for budget accomodation on a beautiful white sand beach Mam Kaibae Beach Resort is it. You cannot beat this resort for budget value.
