  • The interface has changed almost completely and in my opinion, they have made it much better than before
  • There are more options in your contact list and to my delight, they include a favourites section for your favourite contacts, located at the top of the contact list
  • Now this is only a Beta version but I think Microsoft has already listened to other people and have made major improvements
  • If you ever get the chance to experience it, I am sure you will enjoy it

Only a few days ago (11th of October 2008), Microsoft released their new Beta version of the IM program Windows Live Messenger. This has many advantages over the current official version 8.

The interface has changed almost completely and in my opinion, they have made it much better than before. There are more options in your contact list and to my delight, they include

a favourites section for your favourite contacts, located at the top of the contact list.

What I also love is their flashy animations around the display pictures, which you can now see directly from the contact list. A green border means available, yellow means away, red is busy and if their display picture is greyed out, they are offline.

It is also more easier ...

      • to chat - on the main screen, there is a ‘What’s new tab that displays recent changes your contacts have made, whether it be their name, personal message or display picture. The chat window itself has changed, with a nicer default font, (customizable) sky blue chat windows, grouped messages (so if you type multiple IM’s before they respond, each seperate IM appears a seperate
dot point, but all grouped under your name). The display picture box is now on the left and more options are available at the top.

Now this is only a Beta version but I think Microsoft has already listened to other people and have made major improvements. If you ever get the chance to experience it, I am sure you will enjoy it.

Okay, I`m wondering … You know those custom emoticons? If say you have Windows Live Messenger 7.0 like me. But then you download Windows Live Messenger v9.0. Will you still have all your custom emoticons?

No, you will have to backup your emoticons because they will not be backed up automatically.
