  • This issue alone kills the item as a replica piece, since it is no longer screen-accurate, and also as a collectors item because you're not paying an exceeding amount for a replica license plate, you're just paying for painted, flat aluminum

The Ghostbusters Ecto-1 License Plate Replica was a 2008 San Diego Comic Con exclusive intended to promote the 2008 release of the Ghostbusters video game. That game has now been, for all intents and purposes, cancelled and the replica plate is a collectors item.

The plate itself is quite disappointing, considering the now very-inflated asking price.

      It is very screen accurate.

The colors match the plate from the original movies very

closely, with its weathered orange and yellow background and bold black lettering.

Te plate also includes a very nice “OCT 08″ expiration sticker.

It has a nice thickness to keep it from being wobbly or feeling cheap, and is made of aluminum instead of cheap plastic.

The plate is accurately proportioned as well and looks, from a distance at least, like a real license plate.

Upon closer inspection, however, you ...

      • realize it’s just a painted piece of aluminum.

The lettering, which reads, “ECTO-1″ as well as “NEW YORK” are simply painted to look like raised lettering and are not raised as a real plate would be.

This issue alone kills the item as a replica piece, since it is no longer screen-accurate, and also as a collectors item because you’re not paying an exceeding amount for a replica license plate, you’re

just paying for painted, flat aluminum.

Over all the paint and colors are nicely done, the expiration “stickers” (also painted on) are a nice touch and the proportions are well down, but the decision to just paint the lettering was a bad one and kills the item as a replica and collectors piece.

If you purchase this, try to get it at a low price, and do so because of its rarity and not as a replica.
