Oak Alley Plantation is actually what comes to mind when most Yankees think "plantation". A splendid white house, its porch lined with giant columns, approached by a magnificent driveway lined with stately oak trees-yes, its all here.

This is the most famous and most photographed plantation house on the state of Louisiana, also parts of the movie Interview with the Vampire was filmed here.

Oak Alley gets its name from the 28 magnificent live oaks that line the entrance to the property; they were planted about 300 years ago, before the house was built.

You must pay admission to view this house but it is worth it, although the furnishings are not original to the house they are strict to the time period.

There is an expensive buffet, but you can bring your own picnic lunch and enjoy it on the property, there are also hoped skirted tour guides, and mint juleps for purchase and enjoying as you walk around the property.

This is a very beautiful plantation house sitting on the bank of the Mississippi River, and like taking a step back in time in the good old south.
