On our recent trip to New York City, we wanted t save on lodging expenses. So we surfed the internet to look for cheap hotels that are still in the city. We found that Continental Hostel is one of the cheap hostels in the uptown part of Manhattan.

It is about a couple of blocks away from the Subway too, so it seemed like a good hostel to book in. The webste did say that we have to share the bathroom with other guests.

After a long discussion, we decided to book with Continental Hostel for our stay in

New York City. When we arrived in New York City, we found that the hostel was really near a subway station.

But it still is a long walk for people who are not used to using the subway and walking the rest of the way home. Since we were tired with all the walking that we did earlier, we were excited to go to our hotel to check in.

To our horror, what we saw was not a sight to behold. I think it was the oldest building in the row and seemed like it was about to collapse.

      ...

      • When we went in to check in, we saw that the “lobby” is not even a lobby. They had a corner there with a counter and that is where you check in.

The “lobby” felt crowded with just us, ten people, checking in. We were given our keys and on our way to our room, we saw that the elevator is the old-fashioned elevator.

You have to open a door, go in and close the door before you could click on the buttons. When we reached our room, we were surprised again.

It was so small that if you

stand in the middle, you would, literally, be able to go around the room in two steps on each side. In fairness to Continental Hostel, the communal bathroom was clean.

I am not sure maybe because we were the only ones in that floor. To our further dismay, when we went down to eat out for dinner, the elevator was not working so we have to go down using the stairs from the 7th floor!

I know that it is a cheap hostel, but still, with the money we paid, we were expecting it to be a little bit “livable” and comfortable.
