Another addition to my collection of silly movies. Even Steve Martin can’t save it, and that tells you something. But, even such a good comedy actor as him cannot work wonders when the script truly sucks.

The story is about “lonely guys” - single men who for some reason cannot meet a woman. They get desperate and, according to the movie, either invent tricks like pretending to be

joggers and spraying themselves with fake sweat or jump off a bridge and kill themselves.

Larry (Steve Martin) becomes one such guy after he breaks up with his cheating girlfriend. He is a writer, so he turns his experience into a book - a guide for lonely guys, which instantly turns into a bestseller.

Larry becomes successful, he is on TV and in magazines, but he is still ...

      • lonely. He still cannot find a good woman.

Surrounded with insincere beauties, he keeps thinking about a woman he had met before his success. Her name is Iris, and she likes Larry, too, but she has a problem: she has been married and divorced six times, and she is afraid of being hurt again.

Larry, you see, is too good for her. So she comes back to him,

has a nice date, and then runs away because he is too good.

Then she comes back again, and he is again too good, so she marries someone else. Larry goes to jump off the bridge - that’s what lonely guys do - and ends up catching Iris because she jumps too, because she does not love her new husband.

I wonder whether the script writer was drunk or something.
