Living in Florida, you’d think we go to the theme parks all the time, but actually we don’t. But one year, we decided to really go play tourist and we did the Disney Package deal and spent 5 days on Disney property with full park access, several meals included and of course, transportation for park hopping. We stayed at the Dixie Landings resort which is now called Port Orleans-Riverside.

It was such a huge difference staying on property and having the freedom to go back to the hotel in the late afternoon and catch a short nap, take a shower and change before heading back to the park. It was just nice to have that short break to regroup, refresh and renew your energy for the rest of the evening. When you go to the parks for just a day, you always feel like you have to cram as

much into that one day as possible and you get there before they open and stay til they close. By the time you leave at night, you’re sunburned, exhausted and more often than not, starving because usually you only eat one meal at the park because it’s so expensive.

Paying for the 5 day package was a much more relaxing way to see the parks and not only that, everyone got to see and do what they wanted. My oldest son at the time, was old enough to take his siblings to MGM for a day or the water parks, while his father and I opted to spend a day relaxing by the pool or taking in the World part of Epcot and leisurely, strolling around from country to country, which normally bored the kids.

They had buses constantly running through the resorts going to different places and all you ...

      • had to do was go to your resort’s bus stop and wait until a bus came that had your desired destination listed on it’s marquee.

One day, after having spent the morning at one of the theme parks, we all came back and took bikes that you can get at the resort and went on a bike ride from our hotel to the restaurant where we were having lunch in the French Quarter. It was so much fun to go bike riding, all five of us as a family, through all these scenic, floral paths and gardens. After we had lunch, we rode back and spent the late afternoon enjoying the one of the hotel’s huge pools which was pretty much deserted at the time since most other guests were at the parks.

One of the nicest features of the package, is that they gave every guest in

your party a credit card type pass that pays for everything. You leave your credit card info with the hotel when you check in and then everyone is free to buy drinks, souvenirs, ice cream, whatever in any Disney area without carrying cash. Not sure f they still do that, as I heard that they now do some sort of finger scan as in biometrics for park passes. Not sure how all that works though.

Not only did we get to see all the theme parks and water parks, we also got to try out several Disney restaurants that were all part of our package.

We had a very memorable family vacation that we all still talk about years later. It’s fun to look back at all the photos of us and the kids when we had our dream vacation in the magic that is Disneyworld.
