The Savage Dragon Issue 1 was published in 1993 and was one of Image Comics’ first big hits. Erik Larsen wrote and illustrated the issue, which he did for quite a while in the series. For some reason, I absolutely loved this issue of Savage Dragon.

The art and colors just pop off the pages. The fight scenes are so vivid

you can imagine the impacts of the punches and the slams into walls. I love the way the panels are set up. • out what panels follows which. He also separates the panels with black space intead of the typical white, which darkens the tone of the story in a very subtle way.

The issue is full of the Dragon kicking butt, which is what he does best. The Dragon is a typical “tank” hero, who relies on brute force and toughness to prevail. The

Dragon also has some interesting conversations with his incredibly hot and sexy police officer partner, which creates some interesting sexual tension between them.

The issue ends with a misunderstanding with two aspiring heroes who may make an appearance in issues to come. Savage Dragon Issue 1 is light on plot and heavy on action, but is an exciting debut for an awesome character in Image Comics.
