Batman Issue 500 is a landmark issue in the “Knightfall” story arc featuring Bane’s famous defeat of Batman, breaking his back in the process. Bruce Wayne is forced to choose a replacement Batman, the former assassin known as Azreal.

Issue 500 features a fantastic extended fight between the new Batman and Bane. Bane is an

incredibly strong enemy, one of the few villians in Batman’s rogues gallery with superhuman powers. Bane uses a special “venom” to raise his strength and endurance to superhuman levels. Bain had used his strength, as well as unleashing a ton of Batman’s enemys loose, to defeat Bruce Wayne. Azreal decides to fight back ...

      • with a new Batman suit of armor including razor sharp claws.

The cover is an awesome double cover with two different Batman suits, including the original suit and the armored suit. Doug Moench wrote the issue, and Terry Austin inked the issue. The story is tight and well written. The art is realistic and gritty,

        which fits a Batman story.

I greatly enjoy stories where the hero fights so intensely that you almost feel sorry for the pummeled villian. Bane just gets his head handed to him, which all Batman fans were waiting for when this issue was published. This is a great story and an important event in history of Batman.
