Our old refrigerator broke down a few weeks back. The situation was peculiar as it was not difficult to go for a new one. However, the million dollar question was which one? A few names like Videocon, Whirlpool, Voltas and Godrej were going around my mind. Finally, I settled for the Whirlpool Fusion 180

      litre model.

It is a steel gray beauty and the interior was quite well arranged. It has a chimer that goes off in case the door remains ajar for more than 2 minutes. Apparently simple and yet so very important at the same time. Especially because even the house-maid will notice the sound and ...

      • understand that the door needs to be shut properly thus saving on the compressor life.

The unit does not need a voltage stabilizer and that was a relief on the money front. The cooling has been satisfactory at various levels as per the options provided. The chiller and the freezer both are good. The

chiller lid is very aptly placed for a hassle-free operation.

The unit remains cool and no hot air whiffs can be felt even when the compressor is on.

I will recommend this model for a nuclear family looking for a good refrigerator that fits the budget.

They also have this model in different colors.

Sir, we were using a small 180 liters genius XL premier whirlpool refrigerator since last 6years and from last 3 days we heard little noise like tick when fridge machine stop cooling. Whether is it voltage fluctuation or some another fault? Please advice me because we are very comfortable with this fridge. Thanks.

Palak, I’ve experienced similar problems with refrigerators. That sound is likely to be from the compressor, which would also explain why it’s not cooling. The compressor is likely to be faulty, but it’s difficult to tell without having it checked. I suggest that you contact GE to have it serviced. You can actually schedule a service online if you would like. Here’s a link:

There can be variety of technical reasons behind your refrigerator not cooling sufficiently. In your case, you are listening to a small`tick’ noise while giving power supply to it. That can be a problem with clogged coils which is not allowing condenser to work optimally. Clogged coils can cause poor cooling. Check to make sure nothing is stuck in the condenser fan and that it spins freely (models with coils on the back won’t have a fan). To do this, unplug the fridge and pull it out. Plug in the fridge and make sure the fan runs when the compressor is running.
