Recently Lyndsey, Kurt, Josh and I stayed in the Marriott hotel in York for a long weekend break. The hotel over looks the famous York racecourse and is located just outside of the city walls.

From the outside the hotel is a modern white washed building but it is still very sympathetic to its surroundings. The hotel is set in its own walled grounds with stunning views. There is free car parking on site which is great as a lot of hotels see this as a chance to charge extra.

Inside the hotel there is a lovely lobby and reception there is an open fire place and a grand piano down the one side of the lobby

area. The checking in process only took ten minutes which is longer than normal but we wanted them to make sure that we had a cot in the room for Josh. The staff on reception were all very helpful and friendly.

The room we had was absolutely lovely there was two large double beds and the cot was there when we got to the room. We had views over looking the racecourse it was just a shame there was no race meeting on. Also in the room were the large TV, the tea and coffee making machine and also a very expensive mini bar. The room was very nice and a good comfy base ...

      • for our weekend.

We made use of the leisure facilities in the hotel everyday we were there. We mainly used the indoor swimming pools there was a big one then a smaller children’s pool which was excellent for the kids. I also used the sauna and whirlpool and the gym while we were there. There are also tennis courts but we didn’t get chance to have a go on them.

We also ate in the restaurants at the hotel on a couple of occasions the first night we arrived we ate at the Cook’s Brassiere which was good because we were just looking for a lite meal which is exactly what you get here. The meal

was very nice and we all enjoyed it, the staff in this restaurant are very friendly and the service was excellent. The other restaurant that we ate in was called the ridings this is a more formal restaurant serving modern cuisine but it was still nice and relaxed and the staff made us feel very welcome with good friendly service. The views of the racecourse from this restaurant are absolutely stunning.

Overall I would totally recommend this hotel as a good place up in York to stay the hotel is well maintain and the staff are all very friendly. It is a good base for the local area with the heart of York with all its shops.
