If you’re planning a trip to Magnetic Island and you want to camp, there are only two campgrounds to choose from. One is Bungalow Bay (close to Horseshoe Bay) and the other is Base Backpackers (on the same side as the ferry terminal).

We chose Bungalow Bay because it

was quiet, had more trees for shade (we were in a tent) and it has a nice pool (with hammocks on the poolside). They have a separate building with a large kitchen, which is usually full of people and dirty dishes. There are a couple of picnic tables outside of the kitchen, but it’s not a great place to eat. It serves the purpose though.

Their toilet/shower facilities are very clean, and there were no line-ups. They also have laundry facilities, which is a big bonus when you’re camping.

Other than the kitchen, the only thing ...

we didn’t like about Bungalow Bay was the service. The person behind the counter was rude, and unaccommodating. It was sort of like they have no competition on the island, so they don’t care. They don’t really make you feel welcome, and they don’t seem to
      care if you come back.

The coolest thing about Bungalow Bay is the wildlife. You’ll definitely see possums (be careful at night, they want your food!) peacocks and wallabies. If you’re not into wildlife, you may want to try Base, which is not in such a wooded area.
