  • For a special dinner, I highly recommend Valentino's
  • If you're inclined to spring for the full Venetian experience you may want to consider opting for a stay at the Venezia towers or the newest addition to Venetian, The Palazzo
  • The food is amazing and they pour a mean Margarita as well as tasty pitchers of Sangria and fresh, made- from-scratch mojitos
  • I've stayed in many of the best hotels on the Strip including Bellagio, Paris, Wynn's and the now-defunct Aladdin's

Las Vegas is many different things to different people. Some enjoy it for the obvious reasons, like gambling, adult oriented entertainment, or simply the consistently fine weather. However, I have found that Las Vegas offers some of the finest hotel accommodations in the country for some of the most reasonable prices. It is also rapidly becoming a “foodie’s” paradise. Case in point is the Venetian Hotel, located at the northern end of the strip.

In a city of excess, Venetian is a standout in many categories. It offers top-notch dining as well as a varied and affordable food

court. For a special dinner, I highly recommend Valentino’s. This restaurant offers gracious, unobtrusive service combined with innovative cuisine. The restaurant’s emphasis is on Italian food, but it is NOT a “spaghetti and meatballs” kind of establishment. Instead, you can expect to find melt-in-your-mouth veal, fresh seafood and outstanding beef. Their wine list is exceptional and their wine steward knowledgeable, as well as gracious.

If you’re looking for a more casual meal, you can’t miss with a visit to Venetian’s 24 hour restaurant, The Grand Lux Cafe. An offshoot of The Cheesecake Factory, this chicly decorated place offers a huge menu with most items available 24 hours a day. Portions are large and service is usually quick and efficient. It also features a patio-like dining area that perches on the edge of the casino floor itself. It’s great for people watching!

Rooms at the Venetian are sumptuously appointed, even at the so-called “standard” level. You’ll find the largest rooms available on the strip, all of which feature marble baths with stand alone, glass enclosed showers, separate soaking tubs and granite twin sinks, and a make-up table with a magnified,

lighted mirror. The suites offer separate sitting areas with a couch and chairs and a writing desk as well. The bedding is comfortable and turn down service is available upon request at the standard level and a “given” at the more expensive, “concierge” level.

If you’re inclined to spring for the full Venetian experience you may want to consider opting for a stay at the Venezia towers or the newest addition to Venetian, The Palazzo. The Palazzo just opened this summer (2008) and features a second Grand Lux Cafe as well as an outstanding Mexican restaurant, “Dos Caminos”.

If superb, authentic Mexican cuisine served in a beautiful space appeals to you, do NOT miss lunch or dinner here. The food is amazing and they pour a mean Margarita as well as tasty pitchers of Sangria and fresh, made- from-scratch mojitos.

I’ve stayed in many of the best hotels on the Strip including Bellagio, Paris, Wynn’s and the now-defunct Aladdin’s. None of them can truly compete with Venetian for the overall excellence of their accommodations. After 10+ years of twice yearly visits to Sin City, I can honestly say, no one does it better than the Venetian.
