As you are driving north through Idaho on highway 95 you will come to the small town of Plummer. You will turn east on highway 5 and head for the wonderful town of St. Maries. It is the center of the St. Joe Valley and is where the St. Joe river and St. Maries river join together.

The St. Joe river is the highest navigable river in the world and has some of the best blue ribbon trout fishing any where in the United States. You can launch your personal boat from St. Maries for hours or even days of fun and fishing on the river. You can explore the shore lines with the town of St. Maries as your home port.

St. Maries is also home to the third largest Elk herd in North American and hunting is excellent. You can hunt from the forest surrounding St. Maries or any of the others all within a days drive if not closer. Once you have your kill you can have it dressed locally and wrapped to bring home in dry ice. You will have enough fine game meat for six months to come and will be the hit at every family and friends BBQ.

St. Maries also has a very scenic 9-hole golf course. You won’t find a prettier or wilder place to partake of the game. Be sure to bring a coat in the spring and fall because the air can chill. But ...

      • you can warm up at any of the fine dining establishments. Don’t forget to get yourself a cup of cocoa to go and stroll along the popular walking tour of St. Maries wall murals.

With so much to do you’ll be surprised that St. Maries has the Emerald Creek Garnet mine where you can hunt for garnets. There are only two places in the world that provide such a large supply. Africa and St. Maries, Idaho so look for that small garnet in the earth that you can find only here. This is a fun activity for family or for adults into amateur rock and gem hunting.

St. Maries also has miles and miles of hiking trials, four wheeler trails, skiing, horseback riding,

snowmobiling and a never ending picture adventure for the camera carrying tourist looking for the worlds most beautiful picture. In St. Maries along both rivers are plenty of campgrounds and RV facilities for your vacation pleasures. It is one of the best places I have found for swimming and water adventure for adults and for families. It is a great central meeting place in the north for reunions or a place to escape the fast pace of city life.

Whatever you are looking for you will find peace of mind in St. Maries along the rivers and trials of wilderness and wild life. It is worth the trip in every way and if you want more information please call 1-208-245-3563. Have a wonderful vacation.
