  • They will have stories ready so that they can avoid it and still look good but most important he shows them what drugs can do to their life and how it can effect their education
  • However, you should remember that sometimes people do use drug and it is not reported which means it would be a little higher but in my experience this program is great for kids and very successful

DARE is a program that is for grade school children which is run by law enforcement officials. The program typically is put into a school by parents calling their prescient and asking for the program to be started at their local school. Once this is done, if the funds are available they will train a police officer to come and speak to the keys in their classroom.

This is done by setting aside a portion of the child’s day in school in which the officer will come and talk about drugs with the kids. Each week he will make a presentation which is related to drugs, he talks about drugs in a very candid way and shows them what doing drugs can cause on their life.

      He

tells them that people will ask them to do drugs but that they will need to tell the person that doing drugs is not cool and that education is cool. He tries to make them more confident and tell them that real friends would never ask them to do such a thing or try to hold them back in that way.

He will also ask them to get ready for the peer pressure by helping them to come up with excuses for the moment when they do get pressured. This is done by telling them how they can diffuse the situation without looking bad in front of other kids.

They will have stories ready so that they can avoid it and still look good but most important ...

      • he shows them what drugs can do to their life and how it can effect their education. He does this by making a presentation each week and eventually he will bring in a case showing them what the dugs look like so that they know what to avoid.

He talks about the damage it can cause to their brain and why they should not do these despite what kids say that they are cool. Also, through going to the program each week kids take a liking to the officer and they are more willing to listen.

He is there to build a bond with them and an understanding that he cares about their well being now and in the long run. He also helps them to

write songs for the DARE program which helps kids remember the principals of the program so that they can follow them.

Since kids are shown the reality of drugs before they have ever seen them the program has a real effect on their view of what drugs are and do. They are willing to listen and trust the officer and also research has shown that this usually leads to a very successful program as a whole.

It has been concluded that 3 of 4 students that graduate the program stay drug free after the program. However, you should remember that sometimes people do use drug and it is not reported which means it would be a little higher but in my experience this program is great for kids and very successful.
