This was one of those films that was completely missed by the mainstream. The subject of necrophilia is quite a tricky one. But somehow the director of this film found a way to introduce the topic with not just sensitivity (is that even possible?) but also in such a way that the subject was not exploited.

Molly Parker portrays a rather intricate individual who happens to have a fascination with death. The movie begins with her shown in childhood, having a ceremony with a

friend, for a small deceased animal.

The girls bury the animal and have a polite funeral. Afterwards, the two young girls dance.

But when Molly’s character begins to rub the animal’s blood on her neck and body, her friend bolts. Clearly, this young lady has problems.

This sets the tone for the rest of the film. To make a long story short, the woman takes a job in a funeral home, and soon begins “taking up” with the male corpses.

      ...

      • But before you go thinking that this film is completely exploitative in nature, know that none of these scenes (the ones they do show) are in any way graphic. What’s implied is meant to be more stirring than what you’re actually seeing on film.

This is great, except that the topic itself (necrophilia) is never really explored with any depth in the film. The director chose to make this a love story with a very strange premise.

        I believe

that it is for that reason that this film was practically never heard of. I will say that while I found it semi-enjoyable, it was really quite a forgettable movie.

Not once was there anything really potent going on. In fact, there were times when I actually thought I was viewing an “adult” after school special.

If you like taking a risk with strange movies, this is one to behold. If you are looking for something hard core, you will be sorely disappointed.
