Again we have the slasher thriller that isn’t quite a slasher. In this film we have the typical group of college students who decide that while on their trip to Mexico, they should explore some ancient ruins. They are not concerned with the fact that they have no idea where they are going.

They are not concerned with the fact that they have no idea what kind

of terrain they are facing. The distance of their little hike hasn’t phased them.

And even a protest from one member of the group who happens to be wearing flip flops doesn’t impede their progress. Nonetheless, in this movie it appears that a supernatural killer is on the loose.

Something in these forgotten ruins appears to invade their victims bodies in the form of evil ...

      • vines. The ruins are practically teeming with them.

And there is not much the students can do, given that the villagers nearby are waiting with bated breath (not to mention guns and arrows) to catch them trying to leave the property. I enjoyed the suspense, as it was predictably pleasant.

The acting could have been far worse than it was. And even though the actors, Jena

Malone being the most popular of the Hollywood crew—are good, the action never reaches the levels of other movies of this magnitude.

Sure the film has its gory moments (the leg breaking scene was particularly intense. ) If you like the traditional horror film with a bit of a “predictable” twist, you will certainly enjoy this.

It’s not brain surgery. So don’t expect Oscar-Award winning material.
