I am a box blonde! I have been using Preference by L’oreal for years. My natural hair colour is dark brown and loads of gray now! I started lightening my hair

about ten years ago and I have tried Clariol and many other products but none of those can compare with L’oreal.

I have had many compliments by hairstylist about my hair ...

      • colour and the great condition of my hair.

They cannot believe that I colour my hair myself.

They always say it looks as if it was done professionally.

        L’oreal has never

damaged my hair and the colour looks very natural.

        I will always use L’oreal.

Not just the hair products but many of their products.

        They are wonderful AND affordable.

        I love L’oreal!

I love Preference by L’Oreal I am a natural blonde and have never had my hair dyed. I have found that L’Oreal brings out my natural highlights. Instead of my hair being one shade of blonde it now has many different tones

I have been using Preference by L`oreal for many many years. I would like to go back to my natural hair color. I currently use 8A ash blonde. To take me back to warm brown one step at a time -or shade by shade-which color should I use to start that process. Then what would be the next color and then the next?—-

I would recommend going to a color specialist, if at all possible. To go from ash blonde, back to brown, they have to put the red tones back in first, then tone it back up to brown. Think about the lightening process, and how the brown first fades to red, then orange, then yellow, then blonde. You basically have to reverse that process before you can put the brown back on. If you just try to go straight from blonde to brown, it won’t take, and it will look really funny. There can be a LOT of variance on how this works, depending on how damaged your hair is from the lightening process. There might be patches that won’t hold the red, for example, and you really should have a qualified professional handling it.

I used the Preference by L`oreal creme in a Light Brown . It`s a bit dark. I had been using Light Ash brown and was doing okay but someone said the ash could turn my hair green. I think they wre wrong but I took their advice and just used the Light Brown How can I lighten it up a bit as it is too dark and muddy looking. Thanks, Jeanan Gerber

It will probably lighten up after the first week, so the best thing might be to just give it some time, then go back to the color you like the next time, as long as its not drastically lighter. You could try a clarifying shampoo (normally not recommended for color treated hair, but in your case, you’re intentionally trying to pull some of the color out). Follow with a deep conditioner. I’ve had people tell me that about ash tones, and I also disagree in my case. The people who might have this problem are natural blondes, or people who already have ash tones. It will start to look really dull, and yes, even a bit gray-greenish. Try a honey shade next time if you’re worried about the blue/green tint, then wash with a purple shampoo if you end up with more yellow/orange than you like. Good luck

Did you color it recently? The color on the box is always different than the color you end up with.It is recommended, when choosing a color, to go one or two shades darker or lighter than your natural color to keep it looking natural. It has been my experience that the color on the box is always darker than I want to to compensate for it I find the color I want and then go one shade lighter, knowing that it too will turn out darker. It usually comes out just right.

As for lightening it, don’t worry it will fade out after a few shampoos.

Agree completely. I use medium ash blonde and it is perfect for my mousy brown hair with silver grey in it.

I have found L’Oreal Hair color to be one of the best brands on the market. The results are natural looking, and I love the conditioner that comes with the kit.

I agree with the suggestion to consult with a colorist on this one. Getting the shade right is not such an easy thing. If you do it yourself, you could end up with an off color because of the coloring process the poster described. Going from an ash color, which has greenish undertones, to a warm color which has reddish-orange tones takes a little skill an knowledge of mixing colors to get the correct shade.

I also like this brand of hair color I am completely grey at 39 and I always use the red tones from them. I have to say that they are one of my favorite brands. All of their colors seem to be very good quality.

Ditto that I have had the EXACT same experience with L’Oreal Preference in going from dark brown/black to platinum blonde. I actually have a double process where I use the extreme blonde (with the blue bleach packets) just on the roots, then I follow with the Preference Champagne Blonde for the roots and blend that it a little farther (not all the way to the ends). Every time I go to the salon, I feel ashamed when they ask where I get my color done, but they never believe me when I tell them it’s from the box and done myself at home. I can’t even imagine how much money I have saved by not getting my roots bleached in a salon every month

I also tried Clairol about six years ago when I first went blonde, and I fried my hair so bad they had to cut it pretty short. It is now past my shoulders and as healthy as anyone could expect for a bleach blonde. Couldn’t be happier and have no plans to go back to boring brown anytime soon
