What a silly movie. Obviously, it was inspired by “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” in some weird way. The movie begins with students talking about sightings of some monster on campus.

The descriptions of the monster vary, and it is clear that some of the “witnesses” are simply making it up. However, it turns out that there is some truth to it: there is a homeless man - the hunchback - who

lives in the university clock tower.

He has lived by himself since early childhood, hiding from people, so he can barely talk. Once in a while he ventures down, but most of the time he just sits there and watches the students, particularly one girl he likes, Cathy (Melora Hardin).

One day Cathy’s boyfriend gets in a fight with another guy. Cathy tries to stop the fight, and the Hunchback, seeing her ...

      • being pushed and shoved, decides that she is in danger and comes to the rescue.

He is caught, and the debate begins: what to do with him? Psychologists are doctors are called; some of them say that he must be locked up, others suggest to give him a chance to develop as a person. Such a chance is given, and Bob, as he now calls himself, makes very quick progress.

        Not only

he learns to talk, he even reads and speed reads in no time. But his opponents are still not convinced, and a plot is hatched to prove that Bob is mentally unstable and dangerous.

The truth triumphs in the end. Allan Katz is funny and somewhat likeable as Bob, but he does not save the movie.

The plot is silly and predictable, and numerous references to sex and masturbation make it unsuitable even for kids.
