As a youngster, I loved making Rick Krispies treats. It was always a gooey, sticky affair, mixing in Rice Krispies cereal with a bunch of melted marshmallows, but boy howdy, it made for a delicious treat.

Nowadays, Kelloggs brings us already made Rice Krispy treats. Along with the original, it

now comes in a peanut butter and chocolate combo as well as a chocolate drizzle.

How does the new compare to the old? I prefer the homemade better. It’s fresher and tangier somehow. Also, there’s just nothing like having a really hot Rice Krispies Treat.

These single servings that come ...

      • 8 in a regular package or 16 in the pantry pack are okay, but they’re just okay. That doesn’t mean I don’t recommend them, because I do; but be advised, it’s not really the same. It’s more like a sequel that doesn’t quite live up to the original.

        The fingers don’t

get quite as sticky as they do when you make it from scratch, and since they’re cold, you don’t have to worry about a burnt tongue, either.

They are expensive, though, so I recommend waiting for them to go on sale.

They do make for a nice snack during the day and they are filling.

Making the original rice krispie treats is healthier too. With the original, the only fat grams are from the butter, the marshmellows and the rice krispies are fat free. Another reason to go and make a big batch

I would rate them a 4, mainly because of convenience. They are handy to have when you’re on the run and The taste is good compared to other packaged snacks.
If you’re comparing them to homemade, hands down I would choose homemade. There is just something wondrous about a warm, buttery, gooey marshmallow treat.
