Tokyo (NRT) -> San Francisco (SFO)

The flight was from Narita/Tokyo Japan (NRT) to San Francisco (SFO), and was completely packed. Check-in was confusing, as almost all check-in counters in the airport were labelled JAL.

Stood in the line for Delta Air for half an hour, before noticing the tiny hand-written sign for Delta Air.

Later, I wished I was on Delta Air.

      JAL flight attendants

are nice and sweet, IF you can communicate with them.

If you speak only English, you are out of luck.

No amount of my pidgin Japanese was able to warm them.

JAL behaves like all announcements made in English are a pain to them, and it was a complete bother whenever they had to ask me “something to drink?”, which ...

      • was TWICE during the 9 hour flight.

JAL is also dishonest with their “mileage bank”.

For RT SFO< ->NRT (which is 5100 or so miles each way), I only received 3100 miles, and I have not been able to reach anybody who can help me by phone.

Economy seat was about $700 USD.

Biz class would have been $6000 USD

or so, and 1st class would have been about $13000 USD.

If you fly JAL by economy, know that you will be roughing it for 10 hours.

If you have the budget to fly business class or 1st class, there are plenty of better airlines out there.

The only redeeming quality with this airline is that you get a free beer with your inflight meal.
