We heard so much about the Chatuchak weekend market in Bangkok, we decided to make a visit to it during our recent trip to Bangkok. The place was situated at a far off place from the city and we had to take the sky train to reach the place from Nana Station to Morchit.

The market is supposedly a good place for Thai handicrafts, antiques, all sorts of masks, belts, fluffy dolls and animals, ceramic products etc which are available at bargain prices.

However, the visit was a not a very pleasant one for us as we found most of the stuff sub standard; the street was badly ...

      • lit and fully congested and the atmosphere was humid.

We did not find the goods any cheaper than those available elsewhere and the shop keepers were refusing to budge from their prices.

Communication was a big problem as the shop keepers were unable to understand English and we had to do with sign language.

On the whole, the visit was disappointing and need not be included in ones itinerary unless there is plenty of time available.

Visit only if you have plenty of time and patience.

The published opening hours for the market are from 9am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday, but normally open till late night.
