  • Much of the produce is locally grown as well, and the Vidalia onions are fresher than what is available in the chain stores, where you often find onions that have been stored from the previous season

There are few places to find better grocery bargains than at Quality Foods in Greer, SC. The food mart retails locally produced chicken from Georgia that is far fresher than can be found in chain stores. The beef prices are economical, though you may need to buy in bulk or be prepared to choose from the sale selections of the week. Because the store caters to a loyal, local clientele as well as the growing Hispanic population in

the region, it’s also a good source for regional and ethnic ingredients like pig’s feet and chorizo.

Much of the produce is locally grown as well, and the Vidalia onions are fresher than what is available in the chain stores, where you often find onions that have been stored from the previous season. Again, because of the Hispanic population that frequents the store, the produce department features tomatillos and a selection of peppers often limited to pricier specialty ...

      • stores. The avocados are riper and higher quality than I’ve found in the chain stores.

The dry and canned good selection can be spotty: This is not the store to visit when you are looking for particular items. But the prices on canned vegetables and soups, as well as other items available, are sure to save you big bucks. In the bread department, you can find bakery outlet prices while saving a trip to a separate store.

        The

store is not the most modern facility, and service is not the focus of their efforts, although their on-site butchers are very accommodating, and the cashiers are friendly and polite. The store is crowded on Friday and Saturday evenings, with many of the patrons in line for the store’s check-cashing services.

Quality Foods is closed on Sunday and does not sell beer or wine. But for saving money, especially on poultry and other meats, it can’t be beat.
