Dover England
  • This wasn't a major problem as we had eaten snacks on the way along
  • There was even a dedicated baby changing room you don't always find, which is great as we have the two small ones to consider
  • The cost was only £45 one way, which is for the car and a family of four, which we thought, was excellent value for money
  • The only draw back is that they only do the one route, which in itself isn't an issue but it would be nice if they did more
  • We will definitely be travelling with them again

Recently we went from France to England using Speedy Ferries. We used this service when we were driving back from our home in Spain to our home in the UK. Speedy Ferries offer a quick service from Boulogne Sur Mer to Dover. My husband booked via there online website and he choose the 17:10 crossing from the 4 crossing that were offered to him. We arrived as request one hour before departure and waited in our car till we were told to board. The ferry arrived into port ten minutes late and it seemed to take an age to unload. There was no communication to tell us what was going on, or any instructions on what to do.

      When we did

finally get to drive on to the boat the guys loading us on were packing all the cars and vans very close to each other which made it hard for us to get our two kids out of the back of the car. Luckily my husband stopped the car and let me get out before he finished parking the car otherwise I would have been climbing over seats to get out. We then had to walk from the car deck outside up to the main deck. It was very cold and wet, which we were not used to after a month of sun in Spain.

When on board the boat we made our way to the family, which is a small area at ...

      • the back of the boat that has some Lego boards stuck to the wall and some bricks to play with. This doesn’t sound much but the crossing is only 50 minutes long so it’s all that is needed. My husband went off in search of some food but as this was a late sailing there were no sandwiches left only crisp, biscuits and drinks. This wasn’t a major problem as we had eaten snacks on the way along.

The boat itself was new looking and reminded me of a departure lounge at an airport but with more comfortable chairs. The crossing itself was pleasant enough and there were plenty of staff on board keeping the boat tidy and help people with enquires.

There was even a dedicated baby changing room you don’t always find, which is great as we have the two small ones to consider.

When we came to disembark from the boat I had to climb over the drivers seat to get into the car and then had to put one of the boys into the back the same way, which wasn’t ideal.

The cost was only £45 one way, which is for the car and a family of four, which we thought, was excellent value for money. The only draw back is that they only do the one route, which in itself isn’t an issue but it would be nice if they did more. We will definitely be travelling with them again
