Guadalupe, California is a little town set on the central coast, but if you keep driving west for about another five miles you come to the Guadalupe Dunes. You will park in a common lot with other who like to hike the area and begin a beautiful beach walk and exploration. As you enter the frist of the dunes you walk through a marshy area with native plants.

Do not attempt to pick any of them! This is a protected area and preserve. There are areas along the trail where you

can leave the path for a closer look.

Always pick a place to stop once in a while and just observe. Not only are there native plants, but the coastal wild life comes alive here.

You’ll find different kinds of birds coming in all sizes and shapes. Becareful when walking in this area so you don’t harm animals or step on nest.

If you see animals being eaten by other animals do not attempt to stop it. It is the circle of life and continuation of a preserve.

      If you have ...

      • very small children be sure to keep them close to you. Not only do you have to protect them from water hazzards, but there are cyotes in the area and will try to take a toddler size child for food.

They do not know the difference between a small child and any other food they look for for their own survival. When you have walked about 1/4 mile over the dunes you come out on the ocean side.

It is a wonderful beach, but it is not for swimming. There are

under currents along this portion of the coast line so do not use this area for swimming.

There Guadalupe coast area is one of the greatest for surf fishing! It is known for it’s strong pull of the waves and fine fighting fish. Within a few hours you can have your limit and a good meal for the evening.

Do not clean your fish on the coast line. Take them home and keep the protected coast area clean.

This beach is more for the adult adventurer than a child, but it is worth exploring so don’t pass it by.
