‘Mystery of the burnt cottage’ is a book written by Enid Blyton and is the first among the ‘five find-outers and dog’ series. Larry and Daisy see that something is burning. It was late evening and they rush to the spot. They also meet Pip and Bets on the way. They are friends. It was the cottage of Mr Hicks which was burning. Here they come across Frederick , who is a plump

boy who is new to this village. Buster is his dog. The other children call him ‘Fatty’ because he is plump.

Now, the fire is not accidental. The fire has been set deliberately by someone. Who could it be? And why would he do such a thing? What was the purpose behind it? These are the questions which puzzle the minds of the children, who are intent upon solving the mystery. They find ...

      • many clues in the bushes around, such as torn pieces of paper, footprints etc.. The mystery is not something easy to solve. The culprit has done the dirty job quite intelligently.

The children talk to certain suspects. They speak to the cook of Mr Hicks. They also speak to the neighbours of Mr Hicks. But they do not feel that one of them is the culprit because they seem quite innocent.

        This book

is not very interesting to read, though it is quite good. The children try their best to solve the mystery. They speak to all the suspects and all the clues which they find. Out of all the children, Fatty shows very keen intelligence. But Fatty is often boastful and the other children sit hard upon him. The children use all their wits to solve the mystery. I rate this book 6 points out of 10.
