Social networks are a largely growing type of presence on the web. People are really interested in meeting new people and maintaining contact with the ones they know. The Internet is one way to do this, and through social networking websites, this becomes extremely easy and possible for everyone to do. Social networking websites are so popular because people love talking to other people on the web, not because they’re full of lust, problems, and viruses. People who make these claims obviously haven’t looked very far into the statistics behind social networking websites.

Facebook is one of the more popular social networking websites. Next to Myspace, this is probably about the most widely used social networking website. By this, I mean that there are the most registered users, or that there are more users who actively use the website on a regular basis. Most people that I know actually prefer Facebook to Myspace, assuming that they have tried both websites and have friends on each.

I myself prefer Facebook to Myspace for quite a few reasons. Facebook is a largely growing website and I prefer it to Myspace for each of the following reasons.

Social networks are exactly as they sound. Social networks are basically just groups, or networks, of people that are interested in talking. Therefore, social networks. I prefer Facebook over all other social networking websites because on Facebook, you are actually on a social network. You’re part of a small community, such as your hometown, college, or high school. There are several reasons why this is more convenient, one is because you’re more likely to run into people that you know on a more personal level. If you’re able to network yourself more locally, you’re going to be able to find more people that you actually know other than just running into random people. This is awesome because it allows you to become more popular and communicate with your local friends, not just people you happen ...

      • to meet across the web.

Applications have become extremely popular on Facebook. It used to be that Facebook was completely dull and somewhat boring. I have to admit, even on a social network, people need entertainment and unique features and ways to communicate with other users. Facebook allows this on the largest scale that I’ve ever seen, because people design and release unique applications which allow people to communicate in whole new ways. You can choose which applications you would like to use when you’re on Facebook. Some of these applications allow you to send virtual gifts to your friends. Some of these applications allow you to choose the best of your friends and display them as your “top friends” on your Facebook page. There are even applications which allow you to compete and play games with other members of your Facebook network. This is awesome, because I can’t think of any social networks out there that allow for such unique and customizable options that

make socially networking people so much fun. You can even send messages anonymously to people on Facebook through applications. It’s really a great way to find, meet, and discover people as a whole.

Facebook was the first social networking website to allow you to tag people in photos. Of course Myspace later stole this idea from Facebook, but regardless, Facebook was the creator of this awesome idea and I credit them for that. Tagging photos allows you to much easier find who and where you’re looking for.

Groups also make Facebook fun. There really is a group for everything on Facebook. Communicate with people who have similar hobbies. Communicate with your work force. Communicate with any select audience you would like to!

You can also host events on Facebook. This is a great way to plan and invite people to parties. I love this because it keeps me informed of where the most recent events are going to be, how to get there, and who I know that will be going.
