A mediocre, predictable thriller with quite a few plotholes and not the best acting. Ruby (Leelee Sobieski), a 16 year old girl, and her brother Rhett (Trevor Morgan) are orphaned when their parents die in a car accident.

A wealthy couple adopts them, supposedly according to the dead parents

      wish.

The kids go to Malibu to live with Terrence and Erin Glass (Stellan Skarsgård & Diane Lane) in their rich, fancy mansion - the Glass House.

The Glasses, family friends and former neighbors, appear to try to do everything to help the kids to overcome their grief and ...

      • to be happy in their new home.

Ruby and Rhett are showered with gifts and attention.

However, Ruby starts noticing things that bother her.

After talking to their family lawyer, the girl finds out that her parents had left her and her brother a nice inheritance, 4 million dollars.

Ruby suspects that the foster parents are after this money.

She is right - the couple is actually short on cash, Terrence owes a large sum to the mob, so getting the kids inheritance is their goal - but no one believes her when she is trying to get help.
