I have just rented “The Ladykillers” 2004, starring Tom Hanks, from our local library and we’ve had a fun evening watching this hilarious comedy. However, I could do with less profanity; hearing the f-word all throughout the movie was rather annoying. The story is about a gang of criminals lead by an eccentric Southern professor Dorr (Hanks) who plan to break into a casino underground money

vault by digging a tunnel to it from the cellar of an unsuspecting old widow (Irma P.

Hall). The professor rents a room in her house and introduces his friends as a band of musicians.

to see what happened and sees all that money flying around.

When she does not buy their clumsy explanation, the criminals decide to bump her off. However, that turns out to be not so easy.

Every time they attempt it something goes wrong, as if God himself is protecting the churchgoing old lady. The movie is well done.

The storyline manages to stay ahead of you

most of the time, turning from comedy to farce when you least expect it and bringing a few surprise twists. Tom Hanks does a great job as the quirky professor, and the gang members are well cast.

The big brainless ex-rugby player is a bit of a cliche, but I guess every gang needs one. I rate this movie 6 out of 10, removing 4 points for cussing and potty humor.
