  • But in my opinion, the 'ugly-duckling-turned-beautiful-swan' aspect of the movie is too common and as many noticed, can be compared to that of Julia Roberts' 'Pretty Woman'
  • Though not many people can experience being a part of royalty overnight, the other aspects in Mia's life are so true among many teenagers

The said movie is an adaptation of a book series by Meg Cabot, and although it is entirely different from the book version, I could still describe this movie as “transforming and relatable”. The movie follows the story of Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway), a gawky freshman student whose life was transformed when her grandmother (Julie Andrews)

revealed to her that she’s the heir to the Genovian throne.

The following events described her struggles to be ’socially acceptable’ and deserving for a royal title.

But through the support of her family and best friend Lilly, Mia breezed through them with flying colors.

I said it is transforming because in the movie, Mia literally transformed from a freaky giant to a dazzling beauty.

The same way, her life also transformed from simple to the talk of the town.

But in my opinion, the ‘ugly-duckling-turned-beautiful-swan’ aspect of the movie is too common and as many noticed, can be compared to that of Julia Roberts’ ‘Pretty Woman’.

teens nowadays are looking right now: transformation from their otherwise boring’ lives.

Thus I could also say that the movie is relatable in some way.

Though not many people can experience being a part of royalty overnight, the other aspects in Mia’s life are so true among many teenagers.

In particular, the bullying of the senior

Lana Thomas (Mandy Moore) as well as being an outcast of Mia is something that each and every teenager is experiencing right now.

But basically, the point of the story is the main character’s search for social acceptance.

Which I guess is the main reason why many girls consider this chick flick by Disney as one of their favorites.
