One fine Sunday morning we decided to drive to Pine Mountain. The primary source of attraction for my husband and me was the Animal Safari. It promised a near African safari experience with hundreds of exotic animals from around the world. There were six of us.

We bought tickets for 17$ per head. There were guided tour buses available but we decided to rent a zebra van

for $11 for a closer experience. The windows of the van were replaced with bars and the exterior was painted like a zebra. We bought food for the animals before we set out on our safari.

The van did give us a feel of a safari because it was manual transmission and kept stopping every few minutes. Even before we got into the safari trail our van was bombarded by a few deer and a giant bull. All animals seemed to be trained by habit to know that people in vans would feed them. They moved after we fed them. The animals that we saw and got stopped by were deer, huge bulls with even bigger horns, emus, elks and pigs that we stopped for.

It felt icky at times with a huge tongue ...

dangling not very far from you, but after a few failed attempts I was able to place the food directly into the animals’ mouths. It was not a safari per se especially since we went on a tarred road but it was fun with all the screaming and sudden shocks from turning around to see eyes staring at you! And we felt the trip was worth
it even though the giraffe was on leave that day. Just remember not to take your own vehicle for the safari because you could end up with horn scratches all over and sometimes even broken side view mirrors.

The place also has lions, tigers, ligers, camels, alligators, rhinos, monkeys and many other caged animals not part of the safari. I am sure kids will love this place.
