The Autobiography of Henry VIII: With Notes by His Fool , Will Somers is a fantastic work of fiction (it is not in fact an actual autobiography written by Henry VIII). It tells the life story of one of England’s most notorious

monarchs, Henry Tudor, from the first person point of view.

Henry VIII is most noted for having six wives, beheading two of them, and starting the Church of England.

However, there was much more complexity in his life, and Margaret George expresses it through fluid and masterful writing.

She tells how he ended up in each of his marriages, and the love and affection he bears for many of his wives is touching and unexpected from a man who has such a violent reputation.

The reader quickly feels sympathy for a ruler who was and still is considered a tyrant.

The character and personality of Henry VIII comes through very quickly and continues to intrigue and reach out to the readers.

      One is ready to believe

that he or she is in fact reading words written by Henry’s own hand.

Some readers might be put off by the length of the book, which is a hefty 930 pages, but the time put into reading it will be well worth it.
