After a little bit more comedy at Naruto’s expense, episode 6 finally provides what all the previous episodes have been pointing towards: real, dangerous, action. And this episode did a superb job of introducing the action.

There is enough explanatory dialog to keep the story going strong without confusing the viewer, but this dialog does not seem out of place or a

nuisance, even for somebody who already knows about the ninja village system and mission ranking system.

This episode also introduces the idea of hints hidden in the episode that can lead to foreshadowing for the conscientious viewer, such as a single puddle on the ground when it hasn’t rained for several weeks telling the ninja’s that their are water ninja in hiding.

      This ...

      • episode also gives us our first real ninja battle, pitting the four leaf ninja of Team 7 against the two ‘Demon Brothers’ from the Village of Mist.

The two enemy ninja are dispatched easily enough by Sasuke and Kakashi, but not until after Naruto froze up and got stabbed with a poisoned blade.

Perfectly in character Sasuke is an egocentric jerk about

the situation and Naruto, in great grandeur, stabs his hand to draw out the poison while making a vow to become the greatest ninja ever.

As if this episode was not already awesome enough it ends with the first cliffhanger of the series as an even stronger ninja heads out to take care of Team 7.

This episode really shows why Naruto became so popular.
