This movie is based on the mystery novel by Wilkie Collins. Keeley Hawes stars as Rachel Verinder, a rich young woman who receives a precious diamond called the Moonstone as a gift.

      Greg Wise (Willoughby from

“Sense and Sensibility) plays her cousin Franklin Blake who returns from a long journey and delivers the diamond.

When the diamond is stolen almost right away, Rachel’s hires Sergeant Cuff, a famous detective, to catch the ...

      • thief.

This turns out to be a difficult task, even for Cuff.

Everyone seems to have a strong alibi, and the strangest thing of all is that Rachel, who actually saw someone take the diamond, refuses

        to say who it was.

I agree with some other reviewers of this film that the plot is rather unbelievable, but that’s the way it was in the book.

This movie is only a good adaptation.
