  • It's a great experience, there are many little towns not to far from the route where you can find friendly accommodations
  • One of the bikes was a little pink thing with training wheels so this is definitely a family thing to do
  • If you like to hike, bike or canoe I'd certainly recommend this trail

The Katy Trail State Park is not your tycipal state park for camping and fishing. The Dept of Natural Resources manages the Katy Trail State Park, it is part of the trail system that Lewis and Clark traveled years ago. Today Katy Trail State Park is a trail for bicyclist and hikers, and water lovers can follow the trail by river in a canoe.

Katy Trail runs along the Missouri River, so travelers along the trail get quite a picturesque scene, the trail sandwiches you in between the River and the Bluffs. The scenery does change along the route but we found the water and the bluffs the most memorable. It’s a great experience, there

are many little towns not to far from the route where you can find friendly accommodations.

We didn’t go far because hiking the trail wasn’t part of our agenda for this trip, it was just a spontaneous thing as we happened upon a trailhead in St. Charles MO so we probably only covered 5 miles on foot before turning back.

The trail actually goes from St. Charles to Clinton, MO and is approximately 225 miles. We were on a motorcycle this trip and when we left we tried to follow the trail from the road as best we could and we were amazed at the amount of bicyclist on the trail. At one point we ...

      • saw a whole family pull over their truck and take bicycles out of the back. One of the bikes was a little pink thing with training wheels so this is definitely a family thing to do.

Unbeknown to us MO Route 94 out of St. Charles is actually known for a great motorcycle ride, there are lots of curves and scenery. It was a beautiful day and there were plenty of motorcycles following this route, it was a great bonus to our trip. We got to view pieces of the trail and river from up above it

Missouri definitely has four seasons and while you are traveling along the trail you will definitely get to see how

beautiful this state is. We were there in the spring and the budding flowers were just beautiful!

We have read that there are many animal, birds and points of interest along the way. Many of the communities encourage travelers by offering services for hikers.

If you like to hike, bike or canoe I’d certainly recommend this trail. It would however, be wise to get a map and do some research on the communities along the trail especially if you are long-distance traveling along the Katy Trail. Hiking, Biking and canoeing along the trail are great ways to spend time with family and friends and get some exercise and sunshine, I would definitely go again.
