I have seen a lot of westerns in my time. Not that I am a big fan of westerns or anything, it just so happens that I have happened to view more than my fair share of them, especially the older ones (John Wayne, Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Stewart days of westerns). This is certainly the tradition on which Blazing Saddles was built and parodies so

effectively, as it also takes on much weightier issues, such as race relations.

Blazing Saddles is, to put it quite bluntly, one of the funniest movies ever made. The fact that it is still hilarious more than 30 years after it was initially released only goes to prove that. It is a pity that Mr. Brooks is no longer able to craft such brilliant films, (I ...

      • couldn’t watch another of his films after Dead and Loving it, and the last few before that weren’t any good either), but here we get to see a master comedian at his peak.

The 30th anniversary edition isn’t a bad set, particularly considering the price. There isn’t a wealth of features here, though. They have a nice retrospective, which gives some insight into

the making of the film and a lot of padding on the back, but ultimately worthwhile. Some of the deleted scenes are nice, but a lot of them are just toned down scenes used in TV versions of the film. But as always the real special feature is the film itself, and you don’t get more special than Blazing Saddles: it is one of a kind.
