This movie is a decent comedy, even against my initial expectations. So far every other “National Lampoon’s” movie has just been awful. This has completely changed my view of them for the future!

The overall basis of the movie is that a student named Van Wilder is attempting to stay in school. His main reasons for this are that he gets to party everyday and doesn’t have to go out into the “real world” and get a career, as his parents are paying for his college education. Because of this, he does anything he can to fail his classes in order to not graduate. In fact, just by doing this he shows that he is actually quite smart. The planning it would take to

even come to a conclusion like that is a lot of work.

Van Wilder has a very high reputation with the other students on the campus that he is attending, Coolidge College. In his time there he has a very good impact on other people, from getting people to do the right thing, to making people feel accepted and cared about. In this sense, I feel that it was actually good for him to stay in school. The act of making people feel more important is just as much of a sign of success as passing school, although he shouldn’t try to stay in college permanently.

During the movie there are MANY sexual jokes and events that take place. For example, at the beginning of ...

      • the movie it makes it seem as if there is an older lady giving “Van Wilder” a blowjob. In all actuality, she was just attempting to measure his leg size for his pants. This is a great example of how you can completely misinterpret an event because your mind is “in the gutter.”

Near the end of the movie, people start catching on to the fact that Van Wilder doesn’t want to pass school, and they debate kicking him out of the campus. When this happens, a lot of people come to his aid and request that he be allowed to finish his college experience. At first the dean and others say no, but after seeing how much support he has given the others,

and how much support they gave him, he decides to allow Van Wilder to stay. Van Wilder does in fact pass all of his tests, and finally moves on with his life.

The good parts of the movie : Van Wilder is very supportive of others, and it’s a quite funny movie. Nothing is too repetitive, and it’s possible to watch the movie more than once without getting bored. The language wasn’t bad at all, nothing compared to what I thought it would be like.

The bad parts of the movie : There really are too many sexually suggestive events. Aside from that, it’s all great!

I give this movie a 10/10 because it was an awesome movie, and I honestly enjoy it everytime I see it still.
