Southern Shan State , Myanmar
  • Among the places I have visited in Southeast Asian countries, Inle Lake in Southern Shan State in Myanmar is one of the most interesting and fascinating places with it's unique culture and life-style of the people living there
  • Villagers move about in long boats , and here again most amazing , and catching the interest of visitors and tourists like me , was that the boat rowers row with their feet , standing up on the tail- end of the boat , standing on one leg, and rowing with the other leg
  • This was really something which marked one of the most fascinating experience I gained on that visit to Southeats Asia

Among the places I have visited in Southeast Asian countries, Inle Lake in Southern Shan State in Myanmar is one of the most interesting and fascinating places with it’s unique culture and life-style of the people living there. This is a lake way above sea level, high on mountaenous region of the country, between the mountain ranges , south of a town called Nyaungshwe.

It is about 8 miles long and 4 miles wide, they say.

One has to go by boat to get to

      the places in the lake.

There are several villages along the shores of the lake, and, here is one unique aspect, some villages right in the middle of the lake.

That really caught me totally amazed !! Tall houses built in the lake , and all amenities are right there including community market places.

Commodities are on the boats, and shoppers move from boat to boat ! Villagers move about in long boats , and here again most amazing , and ...

      • catching the interest of visitors and tourists like me , was that the boat rowers row with their feet , standing up on the tail- end of the boat , standing on one leg, and rowing with the other leg.

This is a very unique life-style.

I just so happened to be there in the Inle Lake during one religious festival time , when long boats line up and move along between the villages , with all the pomp and splendour of the festival.

Rowers rowing the boats with their legs certainly marks one of the special features , showing thier skill and unique life-style in the Lake.

An amzingly scenic festival !! One of the most beautiful I have ever seen !

This was really something which marked one of the most fascinating experience I gained on that visit to Southeats Asia.

If you would be having a chance to visit Myanmar, try not to miss the opportunity to visit Inle Lake, one of the most unique cultures and life-styles in the world.
