  • There is a fee to ride the dunes, I think $6 or $7 and Little Sahara also has camping for both RV's and tent sites
  • As far as I know they do not rent ATV's so you have to bring one of your own or get some good friends that own a dune buggy - that's the smartest thing to do

Little Sahara State Park is located in Western Oklahoma on Hwy 281 approximately 4 miles south of Waynoka. If you enjoy riding ATV’s, dirt bikes and dune buggies you’ll love this park, there are sand dunes that go for miles and miles some as high as 75 foot are in this park. There is a fee to ride the dunes, I think $6 or $7 and Little Sahara also has camping for both RV’s and tent sites.

We come to Waynoka,Oklahoma to visit friends and they have taken us out in their dune buggy to ride the dunes, it is a lot of fun but it is not something you do not want to do

on a hot summer day. From spring to fall there is usually a concession stand with water and soda’s and snacks. There is something about that sand that makes you want to drink the whole time you are there. We always bring a cooler full and we usually drink it all during the day. To save some money you might want to bring your own cooler too.

Although we have never used the campground we have been through it. There are several tent sites with grills and picnic tables, and RV sites with both full hookups and electric only. Sites are first come first serve. There is a playground for ...

      • the kids and picnic shelters scattered throughout the park. There is a dump station and restrooms with pay showers (bring quarters). Showers are a good thing, that sand gets into every pore on your body. It is hard to say the bathrooms are clean because the sand is tracked into them but they were stocked with toilet paper and paper towels and the soap dispenser was full.

The weekend after Easter they have a event called the Snake Hunt which involves hunting rattlesnake - apparently only people from Okalahoma can participate because you are required to show a valid Oklahoma Driver’s license in order to hunt. The town of Waynoka has a

carnival, it is a weekend festival that is lots of fun with food and vendors. This is a big event and if you plan on camping at Little Sahara go early in the week to get a site because they it fills up fast. This snake hunt is something you have to see to believe.

We always have fun with our friends at Little Sahara State Park. I think everyone should experience it at least once. As far as I know they do not rent ATV’s so you have to bring one of your own or get some good friends that own a dune buggy - that’s the smartest thing to do.
